Did you know that Dora the Explorer, the animated television series, first aired in 1999 and became a regular series in 2000 on Nickelodeon’s cable network as well as on the affiliated Nick Jr. channel? That means Dora is celebrating her 11th birthday this year!!
Did you also know that Dora’s last name is Marquez? Culturally, Dora is referred to as a Latina which means she’s an American with origins in the Hispanic countries of Latin America. Dora loves sports, especially Soccer and Baseball. Dora is also a musician, skilled at playing a wooden flute. Dora has a mother and a father, who she refers to as Papi and Mami. Dora also has a grandmother, A Buela, and she also has a baby brother and sister who are twins. Dora also has three cousins, Daisy, Alicia, and Diego who is 8 years old. Like Dora, Diego is always helping others in need. In his case, he typically helps rescue animals that are in danger, primarily in the rainforest.
The character building and moral lessons Dora teaches our children along with her friends Boots & Diego are so extremely important and significant. The importance of friendship is so vital to our kid’s development and they see amazingly strong friendships being built and maintained between Dora, Boots, Diego, and Baby Jaguar. Our children are exposed to the importance of community involvement and the need for good works in every episode of Dora the Explorer. We should do everything in our power to support Nichelodeon and their continued production of Dora the Explorer and Go Diego Go adventures. They are both great teachers and role models for our kids.
